The town in the clouds — what to do in Minca ?

Go to see the sunrise from Los Pinos

At the center of the village, you will find moto-taxis that will bring you up there for 25 000 COP/person. If you leave at 5 am, you will arrive on time to see the eternal snow on the Picos Nevados, which are at 5500 meters up sea level.
You can as well walk from the village but, this will take you 3 hours, however, we advise you to leave early because the Picos are visible just before 6:30 am.
After, they are covered by the clouds coming down to the lower mountains.
The road is beautiful, therefore, we choose to walk the way back to Minca. Along the road, you can find wild berries, mango and avocado trees.

Visit the coffee plantation Finca la Victoria

To get there you will have to walk for one hour and a half from Minca or on the other hand, take a moto taxi. We arrived at the Finca after 2 hours of walking down from Los Pinos.
To visit a Finca is a must do in Colombia. During 2 hours, our guide, Lorenzo, showed us the property, meanwhile, he explained to us the unique process this farm uses to grow, collect and process the coffee. All the process is done using physics and the water resources of the land. As a result, this makes it a very creative and eco-friendly system, that was designed by six engineers more than 100 years ago.
The tour costs 10 000 COP/person with a coffee included at the end.
There is as well, a little restaurant where you can eat a gourmet sandwich or a piece of fresh, likewise, you can try the Sierra Nevada beer, locally brewed at the Finca.

Where to eat ?

The Lazy Cat, for good international food. We recommend the vegetarian noodles for an Asian twist and the portobello sandwich.
La Miga Panaderia, a French-style bakery perfect for a small breakfast or for a delicious loaf of bread.
Café Duni for a good trendy place in the mountains.

Other stuff to consider

There is no ATM(cash dispenser) in Minca, so, be sure to bring enough cash for your expenses.
We had a power cut that lasted several hours, however, there is nothing that can be done about that, in other words, try to be patient.
We missed the waterfall of Pozo Azul because of the weather conditions, it was raining a lot at the moment but we heard it is beautiful! Maybe you can share your experience with this spot with us.

How to get to Minca?

Take a colectivo from Santa Marta, on carrera 9, between the calles 11 and 12. It will cost you 8 000 COP per person one way and in 45 minutes you will arrive in Minca.
